With the win, the Redhawks secured the newly named Fewing Cup, awarded to the winner of the annual showdown between Seattle U and Washington.

In a thrilling game, men’s soccer defeats cross town rival Washington, 3-2, at Championship Field.

It was one for the ages! Seattle University men's soccer took down 20th ranked Washington, 3-2, September 21 at Championship Field. After seeing their lead disappear twice, the Redhawks finally put the Huskies away on a goal in the 85th minute by Richy Lapointe-Guevara.

Seattle U (5-2-2) scored the opening goal of the match in the 42nd when Kotaro Hirokawa took a free kick near mid field and sent it deep into the box, meeting the leaping head of Demian Alvarez who slotted the ball home. It was the Hirokawa’s third assist of the season and the first goal of the year for Alvarez.

After going into the break with the 1-0 advantage, the Redhawks would concede an equalizer to the Huskies in the 61st. The match would not stay level for long though, as Washington was called for a handball in their own box in the 69th. Seattle U was awarded the penalty and James Morris stepped up and polished off the attempt for his 6th of the year.

There was no time to celebrate being in front for the Redhawks as the Huskies would once again respond with a goal of their own just one minute of game action later. The game would stay tied for 15 minutes before the fifth—and deciding—goal of the match was scored.

Off a Redhawk throw in that was cleared out of the box by the Huskies, Jaden Manetta re-entered the ball and found the foot of Habib Famuditimi who had his shot attempt saved but the ball spilled out. Lapointe-Guevara was in the right place and shot the ball off the rebound and deflected it into goal off the Washington keeper for the game winner.
