The Advanced Community/Public Health Nursing, Leadership and Program Development specialty prepares nurses to collaborate with community and organizational members and leaders in the design, implementation, and evaluation of health programs for vulnerable populations. The specialty is designed to improve the health of communities and populations at risk by providing nurses with knowledge and skills in community and public health nursing, health promotion and illness prevention, program development, research, and consultation.
Students develop leadership abilities through course work and practice experiences. Clinical and fieldwork experiences take place in community or public health settings selected according to individual student interests. Graduates are eligible for certification in Advanced Public Health Nursing through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (APHN-BC). Seattle University College of Nursing was granted a full 10-year accreditation by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in 2002.
