Why minor in Nonprofit Leadership?

The Nonprofit Leadership minor prepares students to become confident leaders in the growing nonprofit sector, all in just 30 credits. The minor provides an understanding of the essential role the nonprofit sector plays in providing public services and working to achieve social justice. The sector continues to grow, and the role of nonprofit agencies continues to expand in civil society. There is a rise in volunteerism, but the supply of effective, trained leadership in nonprofit agencies has not kept pace with demand. The future strength of the sector is dependent on recruiting high quality individuals who will make nonprofit work a conscious career choice.

If you are looking for a practical minor where you will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to make a difference, the Nonprofit Leadership minor is a great choice. Your career options will be expanded through this minor; the nonprofit sector currently employs one out of every ten workers.

The Nonprofit Leadership minor offers:

  • A balance between policy, management, theory, and practice.

  • Classes that explore managing staff and volunteers, strategic planning, fundraising, team building, and other critical nonprofit leadership topics and skills.

  • Internships for credit to help you apply your classroom learning and develop your career.

  • A choice of criminal justice, political science, philosophy, public affairs, theology, and social work classes to complete the requirements for the minor.
