Committing to Our Common Home: An Interfaith Response to Pope Francis’ Encyclical on the Environment

September 24, 2015 7:00 p.m., Chapel of St. Ignatius at Seattle University

For our annual Celebration of St. Francis, the Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture and Earth Ministry/WAIPL are partnering for an evening of interfaith ritual, word, and song as we commit to join with Pope Francis in caring for our common home.

The Pope’s letter was addressed not just to Catholics but to “every person living on this planet”, and we are all called to “cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, involvements, and talents.”

Religious leaders from the Christian, Jewish, and Buddhist traditions will share reflections on how the papal encyclical can be a moral guide for people of all faiths, as well as for policymakers as they make decisions about our air, water and climate. Local civic leaders will discuss how we live into the Pope’s invitation to put our faith into action for the earth.

This event marks the launch of a year-long engagement with Laudato Si, the Pope’s encyclical, at Seattle University, and Earth Ministry/WAIPL’s annual Celebration of St. Francis. Please join us!

An RSVP is requested but not required. Please inform jessica@earthministry.org if you plan to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!
