Why is Seattle U conducting a satisfaction survey of its faculty and staff again?  Didn't we just do this in 2009?

Gathering faculty and staff perspectives on their work experiences and the University’s functioning helps administration understand what currently works and what needs to be improved. Improvement occurs when we openly solicit candid and confidential feedback from all critical stakeholders and act upon this feedback. Disciplined follow-up on the survey findings will help us continue to drive SU to future success.

What areas will the survey focus on?

The survey will cover 15 dimensions such as job satisfaction & support, teaching environment, career development, compensation & benefits, leadership, and mission.

How much time will it take to complete the survey? How long is the survey and what is the format?

The survey should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. If you are unable to complete the survey after you begin, you will have the option save your responses and access them later. The survey consists of multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions which allow respondents to write additional comments.

Why is my participation important?

First, as a faculty or staff member of Seattle University, your voice matters. Second, higher response rates give a more accurate picture of the University and its individual departments. This is a significant opportunity for you to share your ideas, opinions, and solutions for the University by participating in both the survey and the action planning that will follow.

Is my participation in this survey optional?

Yes, participation is completely voluntary.

Why did SU select ModernThink to administer the survey?

ModernThink is a nationally recognized organization specializing in surveys of this kind for higher education.  The higher education benchmark data ModernThink will provide will give SU valuable insight about best practices in our field

Who is eligible to participate in the survey?

All faculty and staff members of Seattle University are invited and encouraged to participate in the survey.

Are my survey responses confidential?

Yes, this survey is completely confidential. The purpose of the survey is to get honest feedback. ModernThink’s confidentiality policy will not allow results to be reported in any way that would allow individual respondents to be identified.  Responses of less than 5 will not be reported for any demographic category.

How do I take the survey?

All faculty and staff members will be invited to take the survey using the ModernThink secure website. The survey will be available beginning Monday, March 4, through Friday, March 15, 2013.

You will be asked to enter a username and password, which will be provided to you in an e-mail invitation sent by ModernThink.

You may take the survey at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from work or from home. Internet access is required. Employees taking the survey can use the same workstation, as long as each person properly logs on and off the computer.

What if I don't have access to a computer?

For individuals who do not have access to a computer, a hard copy survey will be provided. Please contact Ruth Donohue in Human Resources to obtain a paper survey: Donohue@seattleu.edu 206-296-5865.

Once all the results are received, what's next?

We are committed to gathering feedback, identifying priority areas of action, sharing the findings with you, and developing follow-up plans to address them. Results of the survey will be presented in the summer and fall quarters, 2013.
