Brian Fischer, associate professor of Mathematics, was recently awarded funds from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders in collaboration with Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Fischer’s collaborative project, “Coding of Auditory Space in the Avian Brain,” investigates the neural coding of sound location across the brains of barn owls with the overarching goal of understanding the principles driving sound localization and orienting behavior in birds and mammals. This project complements Fischer’s ongoing work in this arena, which has been funded by NIH since 2012.
