Henry Louie, professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering—along with collaborators at Navajo Technical University—was awarded a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation to study how off-grid solar electricity systems on Native American reservations perform and can be improved upon to address the issue of energy poverty in Tribal and other rural areas. Dr. Louie’s grant, for which he serves as principal investigator, provides paid research experiences for two undergraduate students per year, and funds the construction of laboratory equipment that will enhance the research environment at SU for years to come. A full abstract of the grant can be found here.
