Academic Advising Improvements

According to Richard Light, Director of the Harvard Assessment Project and author of, Making the Most of College, “Good advising may be the single most underestimated characteristic of a successful college experience”, (p.81).  Enhancing academic advising to create a high-value experience for all new students is our first key strategy.  While we continue to have a de-centralized model that fits the needs of each school/college, our goal is to create unity without uniformity.

Highlights

  • Redesign College/School Welcome Week activity to provide a strong introduction to academic advising.
  • Hold a required Registration Workshop in Fall 2018 for all first time in college (FTIC) students to better equip them to participate in priority registration.
  • Facilitate increased information available to advisors about their advisees to assist in their transition.
