First-Gen Faculty & Staff

Chandra Catron

Academic Operations Coordinator
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

B.S. in Communications, Colorado State University - graduated as an honors scholar

What does being first-gen mean to you?

Being a first generation graduate means that my potential is limitless. I am not defined by a statistic, a background, or a stereotype.

What challenges/barriers have you faced or overcome during college?

Because so few Latinx students like myself were in my classes, I sometimes felt isolated, like I did not belong. Additionally, I earned my degree as an adult, while working full-time, so balancing the workload between the two was challenging.

What resource(s) or support helped you to be successful?

Having strong organizational skills was key for me to be successful in both work and school.

Do you have an inspirational quote that helped guide you through college?

Until we get equality in education, we won't have an equal society ~ Justice Sonia Sotomayor

What advice would you give to someone else who is also first-gen?

You can do it, just stick with it!
