Reflection from Michaela Kearns, Graduate Assistant & current MA in Pastoral Studies Student

On Tuesday, January 21st, Seattle University's School of Theology and Ministry hosted the second Outreach Team Cluster meeting this 2013-2104 academic year. Episcopal, United Methodist, American Baptist and Roman Catholic Outreach Teams came together here on the Seattle University campus. (More information on the school's partners and Outreach Teams, here.) The afternoon opened with prayer, and then each community spent time sharing reports about progress in connecting with students and discussing the pressing questions and realities of particular communities.? Discussion groups then gathered along with Rev. Dr. Michael Kinnamon, Spehar-Halligan Visiting Professor of Ecumenical Collaboration in Interreligious Dialogue, who then facilitated a conversation around the question: "What does it mean to be an intentionally ecumenical School of Theology today?" The school's Associate Dean for Academics & Student Life, Dr. Sharon Callahan, also shared details about the newly established Master of Divinity specialization in Chaplaincy and Doctor of Ministry programs.

Following the meeting, participants walked to the university's Ecumenical Chapel for a worship service with the theme: ?Together we affirm that God is Faithful?.? Symbols of incense, sacred scriptures, a crucifix and a Christ candle expressed elements of the individual faith communities that also spill over into who we are (the body of Christ) as a whole.? The service ended with prayer intentions shared and candles being lit to symbolize the light of Christ that each carries into the world.

Faculty, staff and students are looking forward to the next Outreach Team cluster meeting of the year on April 3rd, which will include teams from the African American Methodist Episcopal Church, Disciples of Christ, Unitarian Universalist Association, and Community of Christ churches.

The worship service is open to all! Join us in the Ecumenical Chapel at Campion Hall on April 3, from 4:45pm- 5:30pm.
