Becoming Peacemakers: A Gospel Response to Violence, 9/24

August 22, 2016

The School of Theology and Ministry is built on values of spirituality and social justice with a dedication to interreligious relationships for the common good. Rooted in Seattle University's commitment to create a more just and humane world, the school aims to be not just a place of thought, but a place of action. Recently, the Vatican Conference recommended that Pope Francis publish an encyclical or exhortation that encourages nonviolence and peace. JustFaith, the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center, the Missions Office, Maryknoll and Pax Christi International are collaborating on an event aimed at helping community members form their own response to a call for nonviolence. Join this group to:

  • discern your call as a peacemaker
  • consider the evolving Church teaching from "just war" to "just peace"
  • hear local stories of transformation from violence
  • receive peacemaking and nonviolence resources
  • experience ritual and music

The Keynote Speaker will be Marie Dennis, the co-president of Pax Christi International and one of the organizers of the recent Vatican conference on Nonviolence. Marie holds a masters degree in moral theology from Washington Theological Union and  honorary doctorates from Trinity Washington University and Alvernia University. Marie now serves on the steering committee of the Catholic Peacebuilding Network and as a contributing editor to Sojourners magazine. She has previously served on the White House Task Force on Global Poverty and Development; the advisory committee of Orbis Books; and the national boards of JustFaith Ministries, Sojourners magazine, the Washington Office on Latin America, the Latin America Working Group, the International Resource Center, the Washington Office on Africa and the Jubilee USA Network.

Take this unique opportunity for education, prayer, reflection and action. See more information below.
