Career Change Paths

Each path prepares students for entry into the Graduate Certificate in Computer Science Fundamentals program, which in turn prepares students for entry into the MSCS program.

Path #1

  1. Programming Boot Camp
  2. Graduate Certificate in Computer Science Fundamentals
  3. Master of Science in Computer Science

Path #2

  1. Two quarters of beginning programming courses in Java, C++, or C# (at a community college or any 4 year college, including SU)
  2. Summer Data Structures course at SU or third session of Programming Boot Camp
  3. Graduate Certificate in Computer Science Fundamentals
  4. Master of Science in Computer Science

Path #3

  1. Two quarters of beginning programming courses and a data structures course in Java, C++, or C# (at a community college or any 4 year college, including SU)
  2. Graduate Certificate in Computer Science Fundamentals
  3. Master of Science in Computer Science

Seattle University offers three career change paths to our Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) degree. Interested students must have an undergraduate degree.

Students with evidence of course work (or other experience) in computer programming and basic data structures can start directly with the Graduate Certificate in Computer Science Fundamentals. In addition, students with college calculus may qualify to take supplemental undergraduate courses to accelerate entry into the MSCS program.
