Mark Jordan, Ph.D.

Teaching and Research Interests

Professor Jordan teaches Biology II: Ecology and Evolution (BIOL 1620/1621), Ecology (BIOL 2600), and Conservation Biology (BIOL 4650), The Environmental Skeptic (UCOR 1800), and Conserving Large Carnivores (UCOR 3800).

Professor Jordan's research and teaching are motivated by a desire to use the tools of population biology and conservation genetics to understand the impacts of urbanization on wildlife. He and his students use a mix of field, molecular, and quantitative methods to help conservation organizations and resource managers address critical conservation questions. Since 2019, he has been a co-lead, with staff from Woodland Park Zoo, of the Seattle Urban Carnivore Project, which aims to understand wildlife that share our city and to improve human-wildlife coexistence in the greater Seattle area.

Biography

Professor Jordan received his B.S. in Biology from the University of Puget Sound and his Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from the University of California, Berkeley. He has also taught at Green Mountain College and Vermont Law School.
