Public Safety's Location

 The Department of Public Safety is located in the 1313 Columbia Building (CLMB), room 002. Community members have afterhours card swipe access to the main entry doors of the CLMB to connect with Public Safety or call 206.296.5990 24-hours a day 

  • Lock all public doors at night and on weekends.
  • Do not prop open public residence doors or fire exits. Meet visitors at the main entrance.
  • Do not allow strangers to enter your room unless they are properly identified. If a stranger does enter your room, demand that he/she leave immediately. If he/she refuses, create a commotion and leave quickly.
  • Do not keep large sums of money, jewelry, or valuable items in your room. Take valuables home during vacations.
  • If you are accosted in a hallway or public area of a residence hall or feel that you are in danger, consider activating the nearest fire alarm box or blue light emergency phone, or dial 5911 from a campus phone.
  • When leaving your room, lock the door even if you will be gone for "just a minute".
  • Lock all windows whenever you leave your room
  • Never leave purses or wallets lying exposed in your room or any other area. Store all easily removable valuables out of sight.
  • When going to the shower, lock your room door and keep your key with you.
  • Backpacks, purses, briefcases, etc. should never be left unattended, even in your residence hall lounge.
  • Take advantage of Operation Identification. Engravers are available for checkout from the Department of Public Safety. Keep a list of all marked items in a safe place.
  • Avoid leaving notes on your door saying that you are out.
  • Make a record of the serial number, model, brand name, and a description of all valuables. Stolen property can only be lawfully reclaimed if it is positively identified.
  • Record all credit and charge card numbers in case your wallet is stolen. Phone numbers of major credit card and charge companies, oil companies, and department stores are available from Public Safety 206.296.5990.
  • Never give out your PIN (Personal Identification Number) for ATMs or credit card over the telephone. NOTE: Law enforcement agencies do not need your PIN number for any reason.
