Climbing Gyms

We provide two, subsidized, options to access local climbing gyms: Stone Gardens and Seattle Bouldering Project. Must be purchased at the Outdoor office. 

Seattle Bouldering Project (SBP)

Located just south of Seattle U’s campus, this facility offers bouldering opportunities. An unlimited number of SU climbers may use the bouldering gym at any given time through an individual, punch-card system. Additional perks include access to SBP’s fitness equipment and classes.

 We offer a limited number of subsidized vouchers each quarter which are sold on a first come, first served basis.

How to access SBP 

  1. Pre-purchase Required: Visit the Outdoor Program Services Office during open hours to purchase a 5- or 10-pass voucher. Once at SBP, your voucher will be loaded into your SBP profile. Vouchers do not expire and are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  2. Join the weekly Climb Van. Subscribe to our weekly email (email us to be added) for the group climbing schedule. To get a spot on the van, email the group leader to secure your space. Van seats are given on a first come, first served basis. 
  3. SU Climb Nights: This is a recurring monthly event with SU's partnership with Seattle Bouldering Project (SBP). We have established a SU Climb Night on the second Friday of each month from 7pm-9:50pm, starting 11/12. The cost is a reduced price for day entry and includes a free shoe rental ($12 total). Note: this is not a UREC: Outdoors trip. SU individuals participating in this recurring event will be doing so as an individual.

Stone Gardens (Bellevue) (Currently not available)

Located in Bellevue (about a 20 minute drive from campus), this incredible facility offers bouldering, top-rope, and lead climbing opportunities. There are a limited number of memberships designated for current Seattle University students, faculty and staff, thus a maximum of SU climbers using the climbing gym at any one time. Membership benefits include a free day pass to any first time guest, free use of lead ropes, discount on classes, and 10% off pro shop merchandise.

How to access Stone Gardens

  1. Registration Required. Visit the Outdoor Program Services office during open hours to complete a registration form and pay $40 for the quarterly pass. There are no pro-rates or refunds.
  2. Requirements to Enter.  To get in the door at Stone Gardens, you need your SU ID card and your name must be on the SU Climbing List. If you have not registered with Outdoor, you will be turned away or pay their daily rate of $21 to climb.
  3. First Come, First Served. Stone Gardens allows only 10 SU registered participants climbing at a time.  You may need to wait for a spot to open up as well as to be considerate of climbers who arrive after you.
  4. Weekly Climb Vans. To get a spot on the van, email the group leader to secure your space. Van seats are given on a first come, first served basis. 
  5. Belay Certification Required.  If you have prior experience, simply take the belay test with Stone Gardens upon arrival at the gym. If you need to learn to belay, take a course. There is absolutely no teaching friends how to belay while in the gym. This is a serious liability for Stone Gardens, and could compromise our relationship with the gym.

Belay Certification & Climbing Courses 

We partner with Stone Gardens’ instructors to offer basic, intermediate, and advanced courses to help you develop competencies needed to climb vertically. Reach for your next goal and make new friends in a small, active setting (typically limited class sizes of six).

Take our Rock Climbing 101 course to learn the fundamentals: fitting the harness, tying a figure-eight knot, and proper belaying techniques. This two-hour class is offered at the beginning of each quarter for just $15; includes transportation and all necessary equipment.

Intermediate Technique, for working on dynamic movement and heel hooks.

Learn to Lead Climb, will take top roping skills to the next level.

Offered in Spring
Sport Anchors & Rappelling, for more advanced route set up skills.
