Graduation Requirements

For information on undergraduate and graduate graduation and commencement, please refer to the following policies and forms.

Commencement with Deficiencies (83-1)

Undergraduate students with eighteen or fewer credits and graduate students with six or fewer credits are eligible to participate in commencement, providing they meet the grade point standards for their degree programs as of winter quarter.

Please submit this form to request an exception to policy regarding attending commencement with deficiencies. 

Honors at Graduation (75-21)

Undergraduate Students Only:

Graduation with honors requires the minimum completion of 90 credits earned in regularly graded courses (courses in which the grades of A, B, C, D, or F are given).

  • Cum Laude 3.50 to 3.69
  • Magna Cum Laude 3.70 to 3.89
  • Summa Cum Laude 3.90 to 4.00

President's and Provost's Award at Commencement (75-12)

Awarded to a first-time freshman and transfer student, respectively, who has maintained the highest Seattle University grade point average throughout the undergraduate degree.

Certificate Completion Application

The application deadline for a certificate is the first week of the term in which you plan to complete the course work for the certificate.





  • March 14-18: Final Exam Week
  • March 19-26: Spring Break
  • March 22: Grades for Winter Due by Noon
  • March 22: Winter Grades Posted on SU Online by 6 PM
