Dear Seattle University Community,

Today is a big moment for our current and future students and for Seattle University. Today we embark on the public phase of the largest campaign in the university’s history. The campaign will raise more than $275 million for scholarships, the new Center for Science and Innovation and mission-related programs in service learning, global engagement, mental health support for students and more.

Thanks to the generosity of more than 20,000 alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends, we have surpassed $250 million raised during the “quiet” phase of the campaign. What a tremendous show of support for our students and our mission. We begin the public phase with profound gratitude, confident that we can be an even greater force for good in a world more in need of Jesuit-educated students than ever.

The Campaign for the Uncommon Good will transform Seattle University for the benefit of our students in many ways. As a Jesuit university, we are seeking not only the common good but also to empower graduates to bring about an uncommon good for positive and lasting change in their professions and communities. Our time is now to deepen and broaden the impact we make.

With construction underway on the Center for Science and Innovation, the future of STEM education at SU is literally taking shape before our eyes. The CSI will reposition the university as a leader in STEM education grounded in the liberal arts with a humanistic and global perspective for which we have long been known. Less visible, but equally significant, is the support our donors are providing for student scholarships as well as a number of programs and initiatives that are essential to forming leaders for a just, inclusive and sustainable world. Already the campaign is making possible new investments in programs that provide critical support for students.

We will formally celebrate the launch of our campaign with a series of events coinciding with Homecoming and Reunion Weekend (Nov. 6-10). I look forward to seeing you there as we mark this important moment in our history. Stay tuned for more information on the festivities.

There will be many opportunities to engage in the public phase of the campaign. I hope you will join with us in support of our students.

With gratitude,
