Conclusion of the Presidential Election

November 7, 2020

Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

The presidential election is coming to an end and Joe Biden will be the next President of the United States. Voters have chosen a new direction for the country. As we turn the page and begin anew, let me offer our congratulations to President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their historic victory.

I know this has been a stressful time for many. The polarizing tone of the election amid a pandemic, economic hardship and the ongoing struggle for racial justice has created extraordinary uncertainty and angst. Now is the time to focus on addressing the issues of our day with wisdom, compassion and understanding.

President-elect Biden has offered a hopeful and unifying message in the days since the election. This is an opportunity for the country to come together and move forward in support of the new administration as it takes on the responsibility of confronting and finding solutions to the critical and unprecedented challenges we continue to face.

As I said earlier this week, better days are ahead of us. Let us continue to support one another with compassion and care and hold closely to the shared values that guide and sustain us as a university community and nation. Please join me in support and prayer for the wisdom, strength and wellbeing of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris.

Sincerely,

Stephen V. Sundborg, S.J.
President
