What to Bring

Do you have everything you need for your Summer in Seattle Orientation session? Each student may have different needs, but here are the essentials you should be sure to remember!

Identification and Paperwork

  • Photo ID
  • Final transcripts or AP scores that need to be turned into Admissions
  • It's helpful to have your SU ID number written down (if you haven't memorized it yet)

Overnight Stay

  • Personal toiletries (e.g., shampoo, soap, deodorant, etc.)
  • Phone and charger
  • You do not need to bring linens: we will provide bedding, a pillow, and a towel

  • Dress in layers; we'll be inside with and without AC and we'll be outdoors
  • Comfy shoes; you'll do a lot of walking as you explore your new campus home
  • You'll have down time during the evening on Day 1 where you might choose to get active outside and participate in outdoor games with your new friends; you may want to change into athletic gear or more comfy clothes

  • Dress in layers; we'll be inside buildings with and without AC and we'll also spend some time outdoors
  • Wear comfy shoes; we'll do a lot of walking as we explore the SU campus
  • Phone and charger; you may want to snap some pictures, call to check in at home or work, or want to get numbers from fellow parents and family members you meet at Orientation
  • Expect to experience the full spectrum of emotions; sending a student off to college is no easy task, so give yourself grace as you navigate this transition
  • If you are staying on campus during Summer in Seattle Orientation, linens (bedding, pillow, towel) will be provided, but you should bring your own toiletries

On Everyone's List

Everyone should consider bringing:

  • Umbrella or other rain gear (it's Seattle after all!)
  • Water bottle/reusable mug (bottled water is not sold on campus)
  • Walking shoes
  • Light jacket
  • Chargers for all your devices
  • Notepad and pen, we want you to get answers to all your questions
  • Space in your luggage for SU swag

You also may want to use our interactive campus map which can help with directions to campus and getting around while here.

What Not to Bring

  • Tobacco products (we are a tobacco-free campus)
  • Alcohol/marijuana/other drugs (as an SU student, you will be expected to uphold the Code of Conduct while at Orientation)
  • Pets (service animals are welcome)
  • Lots of luggage (you won't need a lot of stuff for such a short stay)
