In Fall of 2000, Costco joined forces with Seattle University and the University of Washington to create scholarships for underrepresented minority students. The Costco Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to high-achieving students who wish to attend SU or UW. The fund was created by the generous contributions of many individuals and organizations through an annual fundraising event sponsored by chief executives of Costco Wholesale. The Costco Scholarship Fund is administered by the College Success Foundation, a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization. To date this program has generated almost 25 million dollars in scholarship support for more than 1,000 scholars.
As recipients of the Costco Scholarship, students will become part of a "Costco Scholars Network." Through the Costco Scholars Network, students will have opportunities to create connections with other scholars, community leaders, and Costco Scholar alumni.
The Costco Scholars Network provides opportunities for professional formation and leadership skill development. These programs and experiences are offered in partnership between the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), the Career Engagement Office (CEO), and University Advancement. The staff from the aforementioned offices are committed to supporting the academic, personal/social, and cultural success of Costco Scholars.
For general information regarding the Costco Scholarship Fund, contact the College Success Foundation at (425) 416-2035 or email email@example.com.
The Costco Scholarship is granted to students in addition to their general financial aid package. Students are considered for the Costco scholarship as part of the normal admissions and financial aid process. The Undergraduate Application for Admissions and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed for consideration.
The scholarship is renewable each year, for four years, provided the student maintains satisfactory academic progress. The student must complete 36 credits per academic year with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Students will be presented with an array of programs and services offered through the Office of Multicultural Affairs. We invite all Costco Scholars to join us for a Fall Welcome (Back) Social in early October. During this social, scholars meet other new and continuing Costco Scholars, as well as the staff members at SU who remain connected with scholars for the duration of their tenure.
The Career Engagement Office (CEO) offers opportunities to develop professional skills and practices through resume writing workshops, mock interviews, 1:1 advising sessions, and so much more. These opportunities are aimed to prepare scholars for special internship and employment postings made available through the larger network of Costco executives and supplier partners.
OMA, CEO, University Advancement, and Alumni Relations are committed to providing scholars with meaningful networking opportunities. Once a year, Costco Scholars from UW & SU are invited to a career development and networking event titled "Ignite Your Career" to meet Costco Scholar Alumni and professionals of color in the greater Seattle area.
