For the third straight year, Seattle University is among the top 10 producers of Peace Corps volunteers among similarly sized institutions. SU is tied for #6 among small schools, with 15 alumni currently volunteering worldwide.

Since the first days of the Peace Corps, 357 alumni from Seattle University have traveled abroad to serve as volunteers.

“We applaud and thank Seattle University for its ongoing commitment to develop globally aware volunteers who make a difference through living and working with host country communities around the world,” said Peace Corps West Coast Regional Manager Janet Allen.”

“For me, Seattle University was a place that pushed me to turn my critical thinking from beyond what I was learning in the classroom and examine my own preconceived notions and ethics,” said Seattle University alumna Marie Vermaas, a current youth development and life skills counselor volunteer in Jamaica. “The emphasis at SU on social justice nurtured the sense of community and responsibility that I had grown up with. The Peace Corps was a natural next step in furthering my own appetite for new experiences and to be of service at the same time.”
