Seattle University Athletics has unveiled a new Student-Athlete Services Center on the first floor of the Connolly Complex, made possible by a one-time special distribution of financial assistance from the NCAA. The funds were allocated to benefit Division I student-athletes in their academic success, life skills, career success, health and safely and student-athlete focused diversity and inclusion initiatives>
“At Seattle University, the new Student-Athlete Services Center centralizes essential student-athlete support functions,” said Eric Guerra, Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services and Compliance. “The NCAA one-time distribution made it possible for us reimagine how student-athletes are able to access the support services they need on daily basis.”
Key elements in the renovations in Connolly are a dedicated study space for student-athletes and a centralized location for all student-athlete support staff, including the addition of a new office, updated furniture and space that allows for confidential conversations. The updated traffic pattern enhances the study environment and encourages interactions between student-athletes and SAS staff.
“We made specific renovations to create a highly accessible and functional student-centered space, allowing for efficient delivery of academic and compliance services to student-athletes,” Guerra said. “In its design, it also aims to inspire a stronger sense of inclusive community.
“We completed the project on time and in budget,” continued Guerra. “We are so proud of the new center. It supports intentional collaboration and is welcoming of all student-athletes to seek assistance, maximize crucial study time, or simply find a new place to call home.”
