College of Nursing Assistant Professor Deonne Brown-Benedict has won the AANP State Award for Excellence. AANP—the acronym for American Academy of Nurse Practitioners—annually gives the prestigious honor to a dedicated nurse practitioner in each state who demonstrates excellence in their area of practice.

Brown-Benedict has been published in the Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, the Journal of Nursing Education, The Nurse Practitioner, and Clinician Reviews

This summer she opened the Charis Clinic, which is working with churches, community organizations and foundations to serve uninsured and underinsured people in south Snohomish County. She also serves on the board of the state nurse practitioner organization.

Brown-Benedict will be formally honored during the 2010 AANP National Conference this June in Phoenix.
