Marketing Communications staff garner CASE awards

Marketing Communications staff have received four awards from District VIII of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). The awards were presented at the 2011 CASE VIII District Conference held in Vancouver, B.C. 

University Photographer Chris Taylor won a Gold Award in the Photography and Illustration category for his narrative photo essay, “Honoring Romero,” which appeared in the Summer 2010 Seattle University Magazine. Taylor was part of an immersion trip Associate Professor of Anthropology Ted Fortier led last spring to El Salvador for the 30th anniversary of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero’s assassination. Taylor’s narrative highlights the influence that Romero, known to many as "archbishop of the poor," continues to have on his country. 

A Silver Award was given to Community Connections in the Periodicals Category. Printed quarterly to highlight the university’s partnerships with the community, Community Connections is distributed throughout SU’s neighborhood. Marketing Communications staff who worked on the newsletter include Casey Corr, director of strategic communications; Annie Beckmann, senior writer and editor of Community Connections; Terry Lundmark, senior graphic designer; Chris Taylor, university photographer; and Heath Braun, student photographer. 

Seattle University's  Undergraduate Academic Guide won a Bronze Award in the Student & Alumni Publications category. Working on this piece were Susan Rudolph-Loos, senior graphic designer; Annie Beckmann, senior writer; and Chris Taylor, university photographer. 

Also winning a Bronze Award was the video, “An Incredible Campus in a Beautiful City,” in the Video & Multimedia: Student Recruitment Videos category. Key in producing the video were DJ Weidner, social media coordinator; Soon Beng Yeap, assistant vice president for Marketing and Communications; and student videographer Taylor Gaussoin.
