With the support of the College of Science and Engineering, Associate Professor of Mathematics John Carter attended the SIAM Conference on Nonlinear Waves and Coherent Structures in Philadelphia. He co-organized a session on "Mathematical Models of Water Waves" and gave a talk titled "Kinematics and Stability of Solutions to the Serre Equations."

Carter attended many talks, "including one in which the speaker proposed a mathematical justification for a physical phenomenon that I've been trying to understand for years," he writes. “Of course, I also met with collaborators and visited the Liberty Bell!”
