Associate Professor of Physics Joanne Hughes Clark has received a subcontract from the University of Washington for a project titled “From Undergraduate Research to Research Scientist.” The research is funded by the Washington NASA Space Grant Consortium. The project expands upon the College of Science and Engineering’s ongoing support of undergraduate research, which is often a key part of a successful application for graduate school or post-graduate employment.

Through the college’s summer research program, four $3,500 research scholarships are awarded to students in science, engineering and sub-disciplines relevant to NASA programs. Participating students complete a 10-week summer research experience while being mentored by an SU faculty member. They present the results of their project in a variety of venues at the university, local, state, regional and national levels.
