Patrick Howell, S.J., rector of the Arrupe Jesuit Community, gave the keynote address to the Gonzaga University faculty for their Spring Semester Convocation. The theme of the convocation was "Collaboration in Mission." The interim president Thayne McCulloh gave the opening talk. Father Howell's talk described four different periods in the history of Jesuit higher education in the Northwest and challenged Gonzaga to imagine the Catholic Jesuit mission for the next 20 years:  "Imagining Another Generation of Excellence, Gonzaga 2010-2030.

Howell graduated in mathematics and engineering science from Gonzaga, prior to entering the Jesuits, and was a member of the first Honors Program at Gonzaga.
