Derek Hottell, assistant director of recreational sports, has been awarded a National Intramural Recreational Sports (NIRSA) Horace Moody Award. Horace Moody was one of the founding members of the National Intramural Association (NIA) which evolved into the NIRSA. The award was created to recognize professional members who have made contributions to student development by their encouragement, support and performance and it is one of the highest honors that the NIRSA bestows. One professional member from each of the six NIRSA regions is recognized each year for this award and Hottell was chosen as the 2010 Region VI recipient. He was nominated for this award by several students that he works with and supervises as well as his supervisor.
