Associate Professor of English Charles Tung’s article, “Disquieting Time,” was published in Common Knowledge. In response to a six-issue symposium on quietism, the article examines the idea of the lost present and an alternate conception of time in T.S. Eliot’s “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” and the television show “Lost.” Common Knowledge is published by Duke University Press.
Tung’s panel, “Digital Material,” co-organized with Benjamin Widiss of Princeton University, was accepted for the MLA Convention in Seattle, January 2012. The panel explores the ways in which digital productions, reproductions and disseminations actively invoke materiality and gravity. Tung’s paper will focus on the cinematic technique called “bullet time” and the spectacle of presence, solidity and event-dilation.
