Charles Tung, associate professor of English, will publish "Modernism, Time Machines, and the Defamiliarization of Time" in Configurations, the official journal of the Society for Literature, Science and the Arts. The article draws from the introduction to his book manuscript Modernism and Time Machines and will appear in the summer 2015 issue.
Tung organized a panel, "Modernism and the Inhuman Turn," at the Modernist Studies Association Conference in Pittsburgh. He also presented a paper, "Deep Historicism and the Pale Blue Dot," in which he explores the impact of whole-earth photographs from space on so-called big history and the various attempts in literary studies to engage the rapid enlargement of context.
