Carolyn Coffin, chair and associate professor of the Department of Diagnostic Ultrasound, was invited to present a lecture on "Ergonomics and Occupational Injury in Abdominal Sonography" at the annual conference of the Society for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS). The SDMS is a national organization for the ultrasound profession that is involved in continuing education for professional practitioners and lobbying for oversight of quality in medical imaging. One of Coffin's speciality areas within this field is ergonomics and the causes and prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among allied health professionals. She is a frequent lecturer in this specialty throughout North America and has been involved in design consultation projects related to the ergonomics for ultrasound systems and exam tables.
