Seattle University softball has been voted as favorites in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, released Feb. 2. Players Madison Cathcart and Ally Choate were picked Preseason All-WAC.

The Redhawks were voted favorites to win the WAC for the second consecutive year. The team earned four first-place votes and 32 points.

Cathcart holds Seattle U career records in home runs (38), doubles (50), walks (109), extra-base hits (89) and putouts (1,432). In 2021, she will have the chance to take over the top spot in RBIs (161), runs (113), at-bats (542) and games started (183). Cathcart has been a preseason WAC pick for three years in a row.

Choate missed time due to injury, appearing in 14 games. The native of Yelm, Wash., posted 11 hits and scored four runs. In her three seasons at Seattle U, Choate ranks ninth in runs with 92 and 10th in hits with 153. She has also been a preseason WAC pick for three consecutive years.

The Redhawks remain defending WAC regular-season and tournament champions from the 2019 season. They return every starter from the 2020 squad. Seattle U will announce its spring schedule the week of Feb. 8 at GoSeattleU.com.
