Wall Street Journal Ranks Seattle U Among Top 16 Percent of Universities in the Nation

Seattle University was ranked in the top 16 percent of universities nationally, placing #121 of 797 institutions, in the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Ranking 2021. The university ranked #23 of colleges and universities in the West region.

The WSJ/THE methodology focuses on student success and learning. Rankings are generated from four “pillars,” each of which represents a key area in teaching excellence: resources, engagement, outcomes and environment with a total of 15 key metrics. Seattle University was ranked above the median in all four of the components evaluated in the rankings.

SU Moves Up in U.S. News’ Best National Universities and Best Value Rankings

Seattle University moved up in U.S. News and World Report’s “best national Universities” and “best value” rankings in its 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.

The university advanced 15 spots to #124 out of the nearly 400 universities ranked in the “best national universities” category. This is the second year that Seattle U was ranked in the national category after 18 years of being ranked among the top 10 western regional universities.

Seattle U moved up five spots to #80 in the nation in the publication’s “best value” category.

Service Learning, Business Analytics Among Top 20 Programs

U. S. News ranked the university #16 in the nation for service learning and ranked the undergraduate business analytics program in the Albers School of Business and Economics #14 in the nation and is #1 in the Northwest and #2 on the West Coast. Business analytics is one of Albers’ newest programs and the category was ranked for the first time this year by U.S. News because of growth in enrollment.

Two other undergraduate business programs achieved high national rankings: The finance program tied for #21 - and is #1 in the Northwest and #2 on the West Coast - while the accounting program is #31 in the nation and tied for #5 on the West Coast.

The university also tied for #33 for top engineering programs among non-doctoral departments.

Seattle U students are highly sought after by top employers, especially in the Seattle area, because of the distinctive, values-based and individualized learning experience they receive.”

Earlier in the summer, The Princeton Review recognized Seattle University as one of the best colleges in the nation for undergraduate education, according to its Best 386 Colleges 2021. The latest edition of the guide, released in August, marked the 18^th consecutive year that Seattle U has been featured.

Also, in August, Seattle U was the only college in the Northwestern United States to earn a spot in the Princeton Review’s 2021 Green Honor Roll of 30 colleges that earned the highest scores by the publication for their sustainability efforts.

In July, Seattle U was included in the 2021 edition the Fiske Guide to Colleges, which profiles more than 300 of the “best and most interesting” colleges in the country.
