Seattle U in the News: What does COVID-19 mean for the future of college admissions?

May 19, 2020

Seattle University Provost Shane P. Martin was among those interviewed for a PBS NewsHour story about the impact of the pandemic on standardized tests for college admissions.

The coronavirus pandemic has raised questions about standardized tests for college applicants, including scheduling problems for online testing and whether the tests are equitable. A PBS NewsHour story that aired May 18 included an interview with Provost Shane P. Martin, who said there is evidence that the tests are biased toward certain groups and are not entirely predictive of success in college. The story noted that Seattle U has joined the growing ranks of higher education institutions that are now "test optional." Seattle U announced its decision in April.
