Seattle University is responding to one of the fastest growing job sectors by launching its first one-year online web development certificate program. The program is now accepting applications for courses set to begin in September.

The cutting-edge curriculum is designed for adults looking to change careers or enhance their current skill set. Those with little to no web development experience are also encouraged to apply, as the courses are created to meet all skill levels.

"The program consists of hybrid courses designed to promote the core mission and values of Seattle University in the context of the web development industry," says Shawn Rider, director of web, application and technology studies. "Technical topics addressed include the latest techniques in building websites…(as well as) topics such as production workflows, professional practice, usability and accessibility."

Based on the latest industry best practices, standards and open technologies, the program consists of eight courses, including HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript training. Classes are designed for part-time students and combine the best of online and face-to-face learning to fit into busy schedules.

Web and software technology professionals are in high demand these days. Nearly 53,000 jobs in the sector were posted in 2013, and the median income was $62,500.
