Thai-Huy Nguyen of the College of Education has coauthored a new book, Making Black Scientists: A Call to Action (Harvard University Press).
“While predominantly White institutions have long admitted to struggling with how to recruit and retain students of color, particularly in the STEM fields, they need only to read (this) groundbreaking text to learn best practice models,” writes Jamal Watson in a book review for Diverse Issues in Higher Education.
The magazine honored Nguyen with a prestigious Emerging Scholar award in 2017. He has been co-principal investigator and lead educational researcher for a $5 million National Science Foundation grant awarded to Seattle Colleges’ “Ready! Set! Transfer!” program, which provides support services to students pursuing majors in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.
