Two stories in the Nov. 6 edition of The Seattle Times take a look at the season ahead for men's and women's basketball

Seattle Times sportswriter Scott Hansen previewed the seasons ahead for Seattle U's basketball teams in separate stories today.

From the men's story:

Seattle U was picked to finish third in the WAC in the preseason poll. It has never finished  higher than fourth since joining the WAC for the 2012-13 season after returning to Division I.

“I expect us to have a really good season and for us to have the best season in conference play Seattle U has ever had,” Hayford said. “I will certainly be disappointed if we were lower than third.”

The men won their opener Tuesday night against Pacific Lutheran and continue non-conference play Thursday at Washington State.

From the women's story:

The Redhawks were picked to finish eighth of nine in the WAC preseason rankings, which Barcomb said suits her just fine. She likes being the underdog, but she expects her team to easily exceed those expectations, which are undoubtedly a reflection of what happened last year.

“You’re supposed to be glass half full and I don’t really like looking back much because that means you are not looking forward,” said Barcomb, who said the goal each year is to play for the WAC title."

The Redhawk women begin the regular season tonight as Saint Martin’s visits the Redhawk Center.
