Seattle University continued its run of strong performance in institutional Graduation Success Rate (GSR), according to data recently released by the NCAA. As a department, Athletics compiled a 94 percent GSR, while seven teams tallied perfect scores in the metric. The university has tallied at least a 93 percent in every report since 2008.

The NCAA developed the GSR, which indicates the number of student-athletes earning a degree within six years, to more accurately assess their academic success. The GSR includes transfer students and student-athletes who leave in good academic standing, unlike the federal rate, which does not count transfers. The GSR also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport.

The most recent GSRs are based on the four entering freshmen classes in Division I, covering 2009–2012.

Men’s basketball, golf and rowing and women’s golf, swimming, tennis and cross country/track and field each posted perfect scores of 100 for the cohort. Fourteen programs scored more than 90 percent.

Men’s golf and women’s tennis have perfect scores in seven consecutive reports, while women’s golf has been perfect for five consecutive years. Women’s cross country and track and field have four-year perfect streaks. Men’s basketball’s 100 percent markedly tops the Division I average of 57 percent for this cohort.
