The Seattle University community gathered in front of the Chapel of St. Ignatius on Nov. 1 to mourn and remember the 11 victims of the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh. Organized by Campus Ministry, the vigil included prayers and a tolling of bells for each victim. At the conclusion, those in attendance were invited to place flowers in the chapel’s reflecting pool.

The Oct. 27 shooting was the deadliest attack on Jews in American history. In a letter to campus, President Stephen Sundborg, S.J., wrote, “Being part of a Jesuit university calls us to work to better the lives of those who suffer at the hands of injustice and inhumanity by way of the examples and values that we work and live by. It means being peacemakers, reaching out compassionately to one another and healing a broken world.”
