Members of the Seattle University community gathered in the Chapel of St. Ignatius for Ash Wednesday on Feb. 14. Ash Wednesday marks the first day of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, almsgiving and repentance for Christians before the celebration of Easter. People receive ashes on their foreheads on Ash Wednesday as a remembrance of our mortality and a sign of our desire for reconciliation.
