One of the goals of the Lemieux Library & McGoldrick Learning Commons is to extend and integrate existing and emerging technologies to be effective tools that contribute to student academic success.

The Library & Learning Commons has over 100 desktop computers in three labs and 20 laptop computers that can be checked out for use within the building.

Computer Labs on the first and second floors are accessible 24/7 to students, faculty and staff with a valid campus ID card. Check our detailed library hours.

Use of these computers is restricted to academic purposes and to Seattle University students, faculty and staff (a Seattle University network ID and password is required). Computers are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Printers, scanners, and copiers

The printers in the Library & Learning Commons are multifunction devices, connected to Seattle University's Managed Print Services (MPS).

To print from any computer, send your print job to the default printer (SU-Print-Queue), go to the nearest MPS printer (there are six in the library), swipe your ID card or log in with your SU network ID and password, and release your print job. It costs 5.5 cents to print one black and white page, and 11.25 cents to print a page in color.

Document scanning is free, but copying is charged at the same rate as printing.

Audio, Video, and other Media Players

All group study rooms are able to play web content, DVD/CD and VHS media. For more information about the group study rooms, see our guide.

One microfilm/microfiche digitizer is available for viewing and printing from microform media.

Ask for help with media players at the circulation desk or the iDesk.

Wireless Internet

The Library & Learning Commons is a part of the campus-wide wireless network, which gives SU students, faculty, and staff network access from all over campus. The wireless network can be accessed via a laptop with an 802.11b-compliant wireless network card.

An alternative to the proxy server

Often businesses and medical agencies have strict firewalls in place to protect their network and users. In these cases, proxy access may not work.

You may be familiar with the campus computer labs, and the wide range of software installed there for your use. Beginning Fall 2009 these resources are being made available to you from any computer with a broadband internet connection. One advantage for library patrons of the new system is the ability to use a virtual lab computer to do your library research, giving you a virtual-on-campus computer from anywhere.

If the proxy does not work for you, try a virtual lab computer. Click the "HTML Access" option to use a virtual lab computer from anywhere.
