Extend I-20

Extending Your I-20

All I-20s have an estimated Program End Date. This date is based off of your degree evaluation and how many credits you have left. However, sometimes there are times when a graduation/completion date can get pushed back. Any student who needs to stay longer MUST make sure that their I-20 will not expire.

If you need to extend your I-20, you must take steps online and in person at least one month before your I-20 program end date to ensure that your record will not be cancelled.

Step 1: Updating SU Online

  • Update your current mailing/Seattle address
  • Verify your class registration
    • Are you registered for full time?
    • If applicable, are you approved for a reduced course load (RCL)?
  • Verify your major
    • Did you change majors without informing us?
    • Does SU have your correct major listed?
    • Does your major match your I-20?

Step 2: Other Documents

  • Fill out an I20 Request Form, print it and bring it to the ISC
    • Verify that your information on the I-20 Request Form match what you have on SU Online
  • Letter from your academic program stating why you are not completing your degree on time
  • Updated bank statement/financial guarantee to include the new quarter(s)
  • Bring your I-20
