Health Insurance

A message from the International Student Center Team

Dear Seattle University International Student,

We would like to inform you that all Seattle University students are automatically enrolled in the Seattle University contracted Student Health Insurance Plan through USI Insurance Services. This plan renews automatically and is billed annually to the student's account in the first full-time quarter of the year. For continuing full time students the first full-time quarter of the year is Fall quarter.

If you are hoping to utilize your own personal insurance plan this year you will need to waive out of the USI policy (even if you waived out last year, you will need to waive out again this year). Please note, even if you are on a sponsored program, or your government is paying for your insurance, you still need to fill out the waiver form.

Waiving Your Insurance Plan:

If you have your own health insurance plan with comparable coverage, you may submit a waiver removing the health insurance premium from your account by:

  • Submitting a Waiver Form online by the last day to add/drop courses in the student’s first full time quarter; and
  • Waivers must be submitted for the first full-time quarter EACH academic year. For returning full time students this is Fall quarter every year until graduation.

Students who are required to have health insurance will be billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan and it will be seen on your bill. The premium will be reversed if you complete the Waiver by the deadline, April 5, 2019.

Waivers must be submitted online (no paper, mail-in, fax-in or call-in waivers are allowed) at the web address provided above by the last day to add/drop courses in the student's first full time quarter.  NO late waivers or exceptions will be accepted after the due date.

If you choose to waive, your policy must include:

  • Primary Care & Emergency Services within a 25 mile radius of Seattle University
  • coverage for Inpatient and Outpatient Mental Health benefits & prescription drug coverage
  • maximum annual benefit maximum that is unlimited per accident or illness
  • annual deductible not to exceed $100 per accident or illness
  • repatriation of remains coverage in the amount of $25,000
  • coverage for medical evacuation to your home country in the amount of $25,000

If you should have any questions about the waiver or problems completing the online form, please contact USI Insurance:
