Joseph Millward is an International Economic Development major, minoring in Mathematics. He has been fortunate enough to have visited India and Mexico before, and he is excited to immerse himself deeper within Indian culture through the IDIP program. Through the recent passing of a loved one, Joseph has realized how lucky he and his family have been to receive access to quality health care. Consequently, Joseph has discovered a deep-rooted passion for global health and health economics, and is driven to aid in improving access to quality healthcare services for those most in need of these services.
Joseph is working as a health monitoring and evaluations consultant at HIMserve in West Bengal, India. HIMserve is a non-government organization establishing community health care services for underserved Himalayan communities in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Dooars, and Terai. Joseph will aid the organization in their quest to become more data-driven. He will be working on data analysis for programs that HIMserve has implemented during the past three years, meaning that he will be determining key health metrics, conducting interviews, generating surveys, and communicating trends in the data that is collected so that HIMserve may relay this information to stakeholders and policymakers in India. From this experience, Joseph hopes to enhance his knowledge of health data analytics, and aspires to utilize this improved knowledge during further studies and work in global health.
