Kaylin Zimmer is a Junior Economics major at Seattle University, with a specialization in International Economic Development, and was on the women’s rowing team up until this year. Coming from Anchorage, Alaska, she has always loved to travel, and fell in love with Africa after her first trip in Malawi in 2013. Ever since, she has been looking for a way to return while doing something meaningful. The opportunity to participate in IDIP and to go to Senegal was a no-brainer, as it was a chance to practice French, return to a continent she loves, and to gain meaningful experience while making a difference.
Kaylin is interning with Maison de la Gare in St. Louis, Senegal, an organization that works with young Talibé boys on the streets of the city. Her work includes helping develop a system for monitoring and tracking the boys who come into MDG, as well as helping to organize and implement a census of all the Talibé children in St. Louis.
