Areesa Somani is a Seattle University junior from Bellevue, Washington pursuing a major in Strategic Communications with a minor in Political Science. As a child of South Asian immigrants from East Africa, Areesa grew up passionate about issues surrounding immigrant rights, racial justice, and equal access to education. She actively engages in representing these issues in the Seattle community through her work as a Juvenile Justice Mentor at the King County Juvenile Detention Center and communicates her vision of civic engagement to students and alumni through her role as a Student Alumni Ambassador with the Seattle University Alumni Association.
Through the Seattle University International Development Internship Program, Areesa is working in Lusaka, Zambia with the Leopard Hill Jesuit Secondary School as a branding, development, and strategic communications intern. Upon completion of IDIP and her education at Seattle University, Areesa aspires to work in the arena of international human rights and one day become the Director of Communications for Amnesty International.
