Cabinet

Meeting Summary for June 2, 2020

June 2, 2020

Reflection: Michael Podlin provided the reflection reading remarks by President Obama on the death of George Floyd and racial incidences.

The Cabinet reflected on the recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, the protests, the impacts and how as a university we consider the work we need to do.

Cabinet & Deans Debrief: The Cabinet debriefed the meeting of Cabinet and Deans on Monday. Mary felt she received the feedback needed in continuing to develop the Guidelines for Returning to Work. The Deans noted that having such a guide will be helpful in assuring faculty and staff that protocols will be in place.

Covid-19 Expenses and Budget: Wilson Garone outlined the process for tracking expenses related to Covid-19. There will be FY21 budget placeholders for future expenses. Having this in place is critical to the required reporting the university will need to make in response to the CARES Act.

Budget Advisory Group (BAG): The BAG met to begin to lay out the necessary information for the BOT Finance Committee meeting on July 7 and the subsequent full Board meeting on July 14. The enrollment number as of June 8 will be the starting point for establishing an update to the budget.

Conversation with the CFO: The CFO forum on May 28 was well attended. Several follow-up questions came in afterwards. In these settings, it is important to know that some participating may not have the financial literacy of others so to be able to present the information in a way that is understood by a broad base.

Enrollment Update: Melore Nielsen provided an update on FTIC with the passing of the June 1 enrollment deadline.  Eight hundred and eighty one students have confirmed with over 300 who still have not confirmed or declined attending.

Office of Institutional Equity: The Cabinet was updated on the move of OIE from the EVP division to the Diversity and Inclusion division. This is effective June 1. The Faculty Ombudsperson will also report to the VP for Diversity & Inclusion.

Updates: ITS is moving equipment as construction and renovations take place on campus. The Strategic Planning Council is incorporating Cabinet feedback as it continues to shape and clarify the action items. Academic Assembly approved its bylaws including the restructure of Committee on Committees. The CSI Topping Off (and signing of the beam) will take place June 12 at 12:30 p.m. The response of the Higher Ed Reopening Proposal to the Governor could be received by mid-June.
