Dear Alumni and Redhawk community members,

Seattle U Gives, our annual 24-hour day of giving, has triumphantly closed its 7th year by raising an astonishing $895,743.39 from 3,608 gifts for the Redhawk causes closest to our hearts. What makes the day so special is the ability to highlight and drive awareness to all the causes and programs across campus that are making a positive difference in the lives of SU students.

We have many things to be collectively proud of across campus – truly exceptional students who are becoming leaders in their fields, our progressive Jesuit and Catholic identity, outstanding student athletes and rigorous academic instruction from world-class faculty.

Perhaps unrivaled, however, is our unique and transformative student experience guided by the Jesuit principle of cura personalis—“care for the whole person.” Our dedicated community of alumni and donors generously show up to support our students by investing in the critical programs and resources that enhance and nurture student life beyond the classroom.

While Seattle U Gives celebrates unprecedented success built on the generosity of our community, we are also pleased to have the opportunity to highlight the programs and causes that are doing extraordinary and life-changing work, but perhaps not typically featured in annual giving outreach. This includes:

  • The Spectator celebrating 90 years of dutifully serving the SU community with independent student-run journalism.
  • Professionals Without Borders (PWOB) and the Office of Education Abroad both returning to their mission of traveling abroad for global service, immersive education and experiential learning.
  • Supporting student emergency needs funds that remove barriers for our students and help meet unexpected non-tuition related expenses.
  • The Women of SU alumni chapter increasing support for their College of Science and Engineering scholarship to support women pursuing STEM fields in which they are often underrepresented.
  • The Office of Multicultural Affairs raising funds for programming that promotes and uplifts all voices within the SU community, their food pantry (which is open to all SU community members) and inclusive commencement celebrations for BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.

These programs and activities enliven the student experience, make Seattle University a great place to attend and distinguish us from our peers.  All of the achievements from 2023’s Seattle U Gives should make every Redhawk proud – I know, as an alum, I certainly am!

On behalf of the entire Seattle University community, thank you so much to each of you who supported SU Gives in whatever ways you could: making a gift, encouraging others to give to the Redhawk cause that matters most to you and signing up to be a SU-pporter. We absolutely could not do this work and provide this tremendous student experience without you.

With sincerest gratitude,
