This type of work study is generally awarded to eligible freshmen and sophomores as an opportunity to develop work skills within the college campus setting. If awarded this type of funding, students will look for a job on-campus and, when hired, will receive monthly paychecks for the hours they work.
Initial awards may be up to $4,000 to be earned over the three-quarter, nine-month regular academic year.
Students may work a maximum of 20 hours per week during periods of enrollment and the regular academic year consists of three 10-week terms (Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters).
Earning $15.45 per hour, a student would need to work approximately 10-14 hours every week for all 30 weeks to earn their full work study award. During periods of non-enrollment (winter and spring breaks) and summer (if enrolled less than half-time) students may work up to 40 hours per week.
The approved 2017-18 hourly pay rates for undergraduates working in on-campus student jobs range from $15.45-$16.25, depending on the responsibilities of and experience required for the position.
Graduate students working in graduate positions are paid $15.45 to $21.67 per hour, again depending on the responsibilities of and experience required for the position.
