The Faith and the Great Ideas Learning Community (FGI) is an exciting alternative in campus living and learning that connects your classrooms to your home in the residence halls. You will have the opportunity to meet students with similar interests, participate in study groups and dialogue circles, and attend a wide variety of co-curricular events. In recent years, our students have participated in interfaith panels, Zen meditation, Ignatian spiritual exercises, and service projects and have attended operas, theater performances, films, and exhibitions at local art galleries. We combine a strong sense of FGI tradition with openness to new experiences.
FGI has bridged my academics with my social life. The people I go to class with are the same people I live with, and this allows me to get to know them all in a different way. We are able to discuss real life issues rather than just theoretical textbook issues. Taking what I learn in class and applying it to real life as a group is wonderful, and this would not have been possible if it weren't for FGI.
FGI is not just about achieving your best academically. It's about creating a community to learn, in the classroom and in life. This experience had helped define me as a student by giving me the opportunity to work closely with other students and with the professors. When I first joined FGI, I really didn't know what I was getting in to, but it turned out to be the best choice I could have made!
